World Earth Day

Today is World Earth Day and with the sun shining, birds singing and beautiful springtime greenery, it makes us feel incredibly grateful for the earth. There is always so many worrying things going on in the world that it can be hard to forget about the good things. It is nice to have a day dedicated to environmental protection. This year's theme is about restoring the earth through natural processes and green technologies

As founder of Nakin I wanted to write this post myself, as environmental protection has a special place in my heart. My degree was in Wildlife Conservation at East London University, and although it was decades ago, it still means so much to me. Even then we knew about global warming, but it was not taken seriously like it is today. We still seem to be producing too much pollution and reducing natural space, plus driving animals to extinction. But it is not too late to learn the lessons of the past and make a brighter future for the earth.

In our personal lives we can all take care of the planet as much as we can. If everyone in the world made the environment a priority in life, then we could make a huge difference and potentially prevent global warming. Climate confirm this and state that although it is not possible to stop global warming overnight, and even in the next several decades, we are able to slow the rate and limit the amount of global warming by reducing human emissions of heat-trapping gases and soot. This totally holds true for Nakin, as we believe that we are also part of the natural ecosystem and so with our evolved brains we have the power to correct the things that we have broken. There are so many exciting green technologies around that are helping to reduce our impact on the environment.

At Nakin we take the same approach to how we live our daily lives, consuming less, reusing where we can and recycling. It is the small things that help, like not driving to take our press deliveries to the Post Office and reusing delivery packaging for those deliveries. Our products are all completely biodegradable and mostly in easy to recycle packaging. We regret that we are not able to start a refill service, at the moment we are too small for that, but hopefully in the future. We are always looking for new green innovations in packaging, and we expect to make some changes there when we can.

Taking care of the environment can be fun, and doing good things in turn makes us feel good. At Nakin one of our favourite days out was when we took part in a team beach clean-up. It was a fun day out and making a personal difference to the planet gave a terrific sense of achievement.
