Why We Should Not Wash Our Face with Soap

Why We Should Not Wash Our Face with Soap

Soaps are the traditional way to keep ourselves clean, and they can be lovely to use and are easily accessible. However, at Nakin we do not always recommend them for cleansing our face. This is because they can affect our skin microbiome and pH, plus be drying and stripping to skin. At Nakin we are dedicated to producing amazing natural anti-ageing skincare and helping skin to look as good as it can naturally. We have some amazing natural face cleansers that we always recommend using instead of soap, as they are so much more kind and anti-ageing to our face and neck.

Soaps can be made with natural ingredients, but we are wary of using them on the face. This is because that as well as stripping skin, using a soap is not always the best way to cleanse skin deep down.

Of course, it is going to depend on the type of soap that you use. Some soaps are natural and specially formulated to be used on the face and neck. We would never recommend using a soap that you use on the rest of your body on your face. Soaps made for use on the body can be too stripping to use on the face. Like everything, it will depend on the exact ingredients in the soap bar, so if you do love soap then inspect the ingredients list, to make sure the soap is natural and suitable for the face and neck. What most soaps tend to share is that intense clean feeling. This can be lovely, and some people desire this. However, when skin is cleansed too harshly the natural oils are removed and skin then goes out of balance, and works to correct the issue.

At Nakin we always prefer the traditional cleansing milk and toner option to cleanse the face and neck effectively, and to keep skin looking and feeling great. A cleansing milk is one of the best ways to give skin a thorough but gentle deep-down cleanse. The action of applying a natural cleansing milk really works into the layers of skin to dislodge dirt and grime. Following a cleansing milk with a natural toner will then remove the last traces of toner, plus beautifully freshen and tone skin.

Nakin’s anti-ageing Advanced Cleansing Milk cleanses skin while being kind and nourishing to all skin types skin. This is because it is formulated with mild plant cleanses, along with softening comforting ingredients like oils and aloe. It removes make-up plus cleans and brightens dull skin, as it helps to clear away dead skin cells, as well as hydrating and nourishing skin. Or if you do like a foaming cleanse that is similar to a soap then try our Nakin Rejuvenating Face Wash. Follow the cleansing milk with the anti-ageing Purifying Face Toner which helps all skin types by removing the last traces of cleanser, detoxing and toning. For your exfoliation requirements use our Exfoliating Radiance Tonic. Follow cleansing with the rest of Nakin’s Face Products. Nakin’s range of cruelty free skincare offers everything for a high-performance face and neck regime.

We should say that soaps are making a comeback, especially as the packaging can be quite eco-friendly, with sometimes just paper used as a wrapping. This does get our interest up as the packaging is much more eco-friendly. So, no doubt there will be some innovative formulations that can be kinder for use on the face and neck.

Washing our face with soap is a common practice, but it may not always be beneficial for our skin health. Traditional soaps can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness, irritation, and even disruption of the skin's natural pH balance. This imbalance can make the skin more vulnerable to infections, breakouts, and premature ageing. Therefore, it's advisable to use facial cleansers like ours that are specifically formulated for the face, which tend to be gentler and more effective at maintaining the skin's natural moisture levels.

Using the right facial cleanser is crucial for maintaining healthy skin. There are various types of facial cleansers available in the market, each catering to specific skin concerns and needs. Some popular options include foam cleansers and oil-based lotion cleansers.
