What to Use Under a Moisturiser for Very Dry Skin

What to Use Under a Moisturiser for Very Dry Skin

If you have very dry skin, then we often recommend using a product underneath your moisturiser as a treatment, to help to hydrate and improve the skin barrier. As a face moisturiser we recommend using our Active Dew Face Cream which is for drier skin types, and our Revitalising Face Oil and/or our Performance Face Serum as a layer before the moisturiser. This routine combined together will give your skin lots of natural hydration, nourishment and protection, which is exactly what very dry skin needs.

What to Use Under a Moisturiser for Very Dry Skin

Our Active Dew Cream is for day and night use, as it contains lots of actives and extracts that our skin loves in the day and night. If your skin is really dry, then we recommend using either the Revitalising Face Oil or Performance Face Serum underneath the moisturiser. You would apply them after cleansing and then the face cream will seal in all of the goodness, plus provide extra hydration, nourishment and protection. Many of our customers with very dry skin find our face oil to be the best option underneath their moisturiser, as it is healing and calming. The serum is also hydrating and has many other anti-ageing benefits. For the eye area our Eye Cream Complex is lovely and hydrating with many other benefits. Here is a summary of the products below and everything can be found here.

Use our Eye Cream Complex for the eye area which is hydrating, line smoothing and energising from its plant peptide, hyaluronic acid and stimulating plant and marine extracts. Then for our face serum and/or face oil which are both treatment products. They have different benefits, but do share some properties, as they are both anti-ageing and reviving for the face. The serum has powerful actives for skin rejuvenation hydrating deeply with hyaluronic acid and easing lines with the plant peptide, hyaluronic acid, seaweed, and green tea. The oil would be used after the serum if using both together and is rich and nutritious without being greasy. It helps to heal the skin barrier and immediately calms skin and leaves a lovely glow, plus is great at helping with stressed skin issues like dryness or sensitivity.

Why Doubling Up Hydrating Face Products is the Key to Comforting Very Dry Skin

When dealing with very dry skin, simply applying a single layer of moisturising product often isn't enough to provide the necessary hydration and relief. By doubling up on hydrating face products, you create a synergistic effect that enhances moisture retention and bolsters the skin's natural barrier function. Starting with a lightweight hydrating serum like ours, rich in ingredients like hyaluronic acid or and green tea, helps attract moisture to the skin’s deeper layers. Or use our calming and nourishing face oil, or both. Following these treatments with a thicker emollient moisturising cream seals in this hydration, preventing it from evaporating and further softening the skin's surface. This layered approach not only delivers an immediate sense of comfort and reduces dryness but also gradually improves overall skin texture over time.

Additionally, incorporating other practices into your skincare routine can also help combat dry skin. Gentle exfoliation with our Exfoliating Radiance Tonic which is a natural chemical exfoliant and has plant alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), helps to remove dead drying skin cells and improve absorption of hydrating products. It is important to be mindful not to over-exfoliate, which can strip the skin of its natural oils and exacerbate dryness.

Another helpful tip is to limit using hot water on your face, as hot water can further dehydrate the skin. Instead, opt for lukewarm water and Pat your skin dry with a soft towel. Additionally, using a humidifier in your bedroom at night can add extra moisture to the air and prevent your skin from drying out while you sleep.

Incorporating hydrating ingredients into your diet can also make a difference in combating dry skin. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon or avocados, have been shown to improve skin hydration and overall texture. Staying hydrated by drinking enough water throughout the day is also essential for maintaining healthy, moisturised skin.

Lastly, it is important to pay attention to the products you use on your face and body. Avoid harsh synthetic cleansers or products with synthetic fragrances that can potentially irritate and dry out the skin. Instead, opt for gentle face products like ours, that are specifically formulated for dry or sensitive skin.

By incorporating these skincare layers and lifestyle tips into your skincare routine, you can effectively combat dryness and achieve healthy, hydrated skin. Remember to be patient and consistent with your routine, as it may take some time to see improvements in your skin's hydration levels. Prioritising hydration and layering products not only benefits the appearance of your skin, but also plays a role in maintaining overall skin health.
