What to do if a Skincare Product Irritates Your Skin

Many of us will have been in this situation, when we apply a product to our face and feel that irritation feeling, tingly and even burning. It can come from many things, such as an allergy to one of the ingredients, or because the ingredients in a face product are too strong for our delicate faces. At Nakin we have noticed that this is becoming a more common occurrence with the rise of high percentage cheap anti-ageing ingredients.

It is all the rage at the moment for some skincare brands to proudly communicate that their products have a high percentage of an ingredient, such as 23% vitamin C, or 7% glycolic acid. While this might sound great and hugely anti-ageing, it is not always what it seems. Synthetic glycolic acid and vitamin C can be very aggravating to our complexions and so what you might actually be applying is a very strong cheap synthetic ingredient, that we believe will cause disruption to the skin barrier.

If you have applied a product that is causing irritation then we recommend removing all of it it immediately with lukewarm water, and not using the product again. Then look to the cause, is it an allergy to an ingredient, in which case try to work out what it is to avoid the ingredient in the future. Or, is it that the product is just too strong to use.

At Nakin we take a lot of time to carefully formulate all of our natural anti-ageing face products to be kind to skin. We avoid these harsh synthetic ingredients and instead opt for nourishing plant actives and extracts. Find out more about us online at www.nakinskincare.com

What to do if a Skincare Product Irritates Your Skin

Skincare products can be a great way to improve the health and appearance of your skin. However, sometimes these products can cause irritation or adverse reactions, leaving you with irritation and redness. If this happens to you, it is important to know what steps you should take to alleviate the irritation and get your skin back to its healthy state.

Identify the Product Causing Irritation

The first step in dealing with any skincare irritation is identifying the product or ingredient that may be causing it. This can be tricky, as reactions can occur immediately or after prolonged use. If you have recently introduced a new skincare product into your routine and notice irritation shortly after, it is likely that product is the culprit. However, if you have been using a product for a while and suddenly experience irritation, it could be due to a change in formulation or an ingredient that your skin has become sensitised to. Often the irritation will occur as soon as the product is applied.

Stop Using the Product

Once you have identified the product causing irritation, it is important to stop using it immediately. Continuing to use the product will only prolong the irritation and potentially make it worse. It is also a good idea to stop using any other new products you have introduced, as they may be contributing to the reaction. Irritation is usually not a sign that the product is working.

Rinse Your Skin

After stopping the use of the irritating product, rinse your skin with lukewarm water to help soothe and remove any remaining product. Avoid using hot or cold water, as it can further irritate the skin. You can also try using a gentle cleanser to remove any traces of the product.

Apply a Soothing Product

To help calm and soothe your irritated skin, apply a gentle and hydrating product such as aloe vera gel or our Revitalising Face Oil with its soothing ingredients. Avoid using any more harsh products at this time, as they can further aggravate the irritation.
