What Is Mindfulness?
To put is simply, mindfulness is being in the present moment. We have thousands of thoughts a day, but many of them tend to focus on the past or the future, and can go into negative thought patterns that lead to stress and anxiety. It is hard to control our minds, but as our brain is a muscle, then it can be exercised and trained like any other muscle. At Nakin we dedicate our work to producing amazing natural skincare. We know how important our face product routine is to many of our customers, as it gives the chance to improve our skin while taking some much needed relaxation time at the start and any of our day.
Beautiful skin comes from many things, and being happy, relaxed and stress free helps to achieve gorgeous skin naturally. Mindfulness helps to relax the mind using techniques such as meditation, breathing and yoga. The Mental Health Foundation explain mindfulness as a way of paying attention to the present moment. It helps individuals to become more aware of thoughts and feelings, so that instead of being overwhelmed by them, we are better able to manage them.
Mindfulness has become really popular in recent years, and there are many apps to help us achieve it. One of the well-known companies is called Headspace. They describe mindfulness as the ability to be fully present in the moment. They have worked to develop an app that helps us to practice mindfulness and truly experience the current moment, plus integrate that awareness into our everyday life. They advise that it can have numerous benefits including reduced stress and sadness, plus increased happiness, and the ability to focus. They have a free one-minute video on their web site which advises how to help achieve mindfulness, no matter how many thoughts are running round your mind. Start by finding a moment to sit down and take a big deep breath, breathing in through the nose out through the mouth. As you breathe in imagine taking in fresh air as the lungs expand. Then as you breathe out get a sense of letting go of any stress in the body and mind, softening your muscles and closing your eyes. Then repeat if you would like to and allow the thoughts to just come and go.
Sometimes it is not always the right situation to carry out a proper mindfulness exercise. In this instance then one way to help achieve mindfulness is every time that we have a negative thought, then calmly acknowledge and accept the feeling, thought, and bodily sensation, but then take our attention back to the breath and the present moment. We can also carry out modified breathing and tapping exercises at any time in the day.
Scientists have shown that mindfulness does work. The Mental Health Foundation reported on a research study published by the University of Oxford in 2013, that provides evidence of the effectiveness of an online course called Be Mindful. The study examined the effects of the course for the 273 people who had completed it and they found that the average results were pretty amazing. There was a 58% reduction in anxiety levels, a 57% reduction in depression and a 40% reduction in stress.
Mindfulness has surged in popularity due to its tangible benefits in reducing stress, enhancing concentration, and promoting overall mental well-being. In an age where digital distractions are omnipresent, mindfulness offers a sanctuary of calm, enabling individuals to reconnect with the present moment and gain clarity in their thoughts and emotions. Its simple, inclusive practice, requiring no special equipment or environment, makes it accessible to a wide audience, further contributing to its widespread appeal.
