What Does A Lip Oil Do?

What Does A Lip Oil Do?

In recent years there has been a big rise in lip oils. We have probably all seen them for sale or advertised, but many of us will have wondered what they are for and what lip oils actually do. Wonder no more and read on to find out everything that you need to know about lip oils.

At Nakin we are huge advocates of natural skincare and this is why we made our award winning anti-ageing face products range using the best plant actives. Our range includes a stunning natural lip balm, however, we do not have a lip oil. The balm contains many different plant oils for excellent hydration and nourishment, but also butters and waxes for the healing and protective abilities. At Nakin we always keep up to date with the skincare market, plus new and popular beauty products. So, we wanted to delve closer into lip oils. We always recommend a good lip balm for lips, as the balmy consistency means that they can stay on lips for a long time, and deliver intense nourishment and hydration. We wonder if lip oils can do this, as oils by nature are more slippery. There are some plant oils that are naturally thick and gloopy, that could be nice for lips. The difference between lip balms and lip oils are outlined below.

  • Lip balms tend to have a more subtle look than lip oils, as some lip oils can give that high gloss look which some people desire.
  • Lip balms are better for providing a barrier to the lips, to protect them from things like the cold and wind. Traditionally petroleum was used as a lip balm, but this is never an ingredient that we recommend using, as it is just a barrier ingredient with no goodness. Instead all of Nakin’s products are petroleum free and our 100% Natural Lip Treatment Balm only contains the best luxurious natural butters and oils.
  • Lip oils generally have a thin consistency, so they are good if you do not like to feel a lip balm coating on your lips. They can sink in nicely into lips and leave lips comforted.
  • Lip balms tend to be better for the winter months, as an excellent natural lip balm such as ours offers multipurpose conditioning, hydration and protection to lips. Many people find their lips get dry and cracked in the winter months, so a good lip balm can really help with this.

Lip balm is arguably superior to lip oil for several reasons, most notably its ability to provide long-lasting hydration. Unlike lip oils, which may offer a glossy finish and quick absorption, lip balms typically include ingredients such as beeswax or shea butter that create a protective barrier on the surface of the lips. This barrier not only locks in moisture to prevent dryness but also protects against environmental factors like cold weather and wind, which can further strip moisture from the lip

At Nakin we do not have a lip oil in our skincare range. Instead we have a gorgeous lip balm that we believe is one of the best natural lip balms available. We hope that you found our feature helpful about lip oils, and what lip oils actually do. We understand why some people love them, although at Nakin we are huge lip balm fans. Like everything there will be huge variation in the feel and properties of different lip oils. The important thing is to always use the best skincare products.
