The Difference Between a Toner and a Micellar Water

The Difference Between a Toner and a Micellar Water

Toners and micellar waters are very different products, and it is good to understand the difference as at Nakin we feel that micellar waters are a product that should be used with care, whereas most good toners add a lot to a skincare routine. This is why we have a toner in our natural skincare range at Nakin, and not a micellar water. We have our Purifying Face Toner which acts as a second cleanse and helps to detox, condition, revive and tone our skin. A micellar water on the other hand is a much stronger cleanser that is usually designed to remove even heavy make-up. The problem is that as it is not washed off it means leaving pretty strong cleansing agents on our skin, whenever we use one. This is the key difference between a toner and a micellar water, and you can find out more about them below.

The Difference Between a Toner and a Micellar Water

When it comes to skincare, understanding the purpose and benefits of different products is essential. Two commonly confused skincare staples are toners and micellar waters. While both are used to cleanse and care for the skin, they serve different functions and offer unique benefits.

Toner: A toner is a liquid skincare product that is typically applied after cleansing to rebalance and hydrate the skin. Toners help to remove any remaining impurities, such as traces of dirt or makeup, revive and condition, plus restore the skin's balance. Good ones like ours contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid and botanical extracts to hydrate, soothe, and prepare the skin for subsequent skincare steps. Toners can also help to refine the appearance of pores and enhance the absorption of other skincare products.

Micellar Water: Micellar waters are cleansing solution that usually consists of micelles, tiny oil molecules suspended in water. These micelles attract and lift away dirt, oil, and makeup from the skin but they can be quite strong for our complexions, as they are designed to remove even heavy grime, but are not rinsed away. Micellar waters can be used as a standalone cleanser which is often the case, so they also take away the double cleansing benefits of using different products. They leave the skin feeling clear and refreshed, but can also be drying.

While toners and micellar waters share the purpose of cleansing the skin from heavy make-up, toners primarily focus on any remaining detoxing that is required balancing and preparing the skin for further skincare. Understanding the difference between these two products allows you to choose the most suitable option for your skincare routine and address your specific skin concerns effectively. Regardless of which product you choose, we always recommend incorporating natural toners and micellar waters into your skincare routine so they are more gentle and help to keep your skin clean, balanced, and healthy.
