The problem with a lot of cosmetic beauty products that are labelled as eco-friendly is that they do not contain enough natural ingredients. In our opinion a true eco-friendly product will be made with as much natural ingredients as possible. This is why our products are free of so many unwanted and unnecessary ingredients that are found in many products. When selecting eco-friendly skincare products, there are certain ingredients that should be avoided. These include parabens and phthalates, which are commonly used as preservatives but can be linked to hormone disruption and development issues; synthetic colours or fragrances, which can cause skin sensitivity; petroleum-based ingredients such as mineral oil that can clog pores; plus sodium lauryl and laureth sulfate which are harsh cleansing agents that dry out the skin. These are the well known ones that most of us will have heard of, but there are many more. Additionally, it is important to watch out for "natural" labelling claims on packaging, as some companies may use this label when their product contains a small percentage of natural ingredients mixed with many synthetic ones.
Even some of the big natural brands still use ingredients like silicones and PEGs as they help products to feeling lovely and silky on skin, but they have no beauty benefits, and so at Nakin we prefer to use as much plant content as possible.
Checking labels carefully is essential in order to ensure you are using high quality. Finally, it is important to avoid any products that have been tested on animals. By avoiding these ingredients, you can make smarter choices when selecting natural skincare items and protect both your skin and the environment.
