Is Lanolin Good for Your Skin?

We have been hearing about lanolin lots recently and even in face products, which surprises us as it is not something that we recommend using on the skin of the face and neck. Lanolin sometimes appears in face products for dry skin as it has a waxy greasy texture, but we feel it is too much for our facial skin and lacks anti-ageing properties.
Is Lanolin Good for Your Skin?
Lanolin, a substance derived from sheep's wool, is often found in skincare products due to its moisturising properties. However, when used on the skin of the face, it can have adverse effects for some individuals. Lanolin has a high potential to clog pores, leading to breakouts and acne, particularly for those with sensitive or oily skin.
At Nakin all of our natural anti-ageing face products are free of lanolin. Our face products will feel differently to products that contain it, as we do not use lanolin because it is from sheep and we do not feel that it should be used on the face, as it is such a thick substance, and does not have rejuvenating properties. Similarly, we also do not use beeswax in our face cleansers and creams, for the same reason. Although we do use some beeswax in our Lip Treatment Balm, as the lips benefit from the thicker barrier protection here.
Our products are absolutely filled with natural hydrating ingredients, but they will not feel the same as the lanolin rich products because ours are more about offering deep down hydration and anti-ageing benefits, as opposed to offering a thick cream that more sits on the surface for a comforting feel.
If you have dry skin then instead of lanolin consider one of our cleansers, that will give a great cleansing base before using the serum, face oil and moisturiser. This will give excellent hydration and so your skin should feel lovely and hydrated, and importantly they will sink into the skin cells to help to improve dryness. However, you will not have the thick greasy feel that many products provide, as we do not believe this is good for our skin.
