How to Hydrate Menopausal Skin

How to Hydrate Menopausal Skin

If you are in the menopause then you will probably have noticed that your skin has become quite dry and needs more hydration than it did before. This is partly down to lower levels of oestrogen and our skin naturally becomes drier as we age. We recommend hydrating skin properly during this time of life by using high quality anti-ageing face products like Nakin’s. Our skincare is for all ages and skin types and helps menopausal skin with its beautiful plant powered formulas, that hydrate and protect even very dry skin.

The trick is to get the right sort of hydration though, which means using natural skincare products with high quality plant ingredients that are moisturising to skin and kind at the same time. As well as skin becoming drier skin is also more fragile and sensitive at this time, so we always recommend using products like Nakin’s that are suitable for sensitive skin. As we said hydrating properly is all about using the right ingredients that actually hydrate and nourish deep down, instead of providing surface level hydration that leaves skin feeling instantly moisturised, but without such long-term benefits.

At Nakin we never include overly rich oils in our creams as they can clog pores, although they feel nice on the face when applied. This is important at all stages of life as even in the menopause skin can still be vulnerable to clogged pores and breakouts. Instead, we use high quality hydrators like jojoba and argan oil, plus hyaluronic acid and cassia, which are not greasy but provide long lasting hydration deeper down in skin. We also never use synthetic moisturising ingredients like PEGs and silicones, which again feel lovely, rich and cocooning on the skin, but have no actual beauty benefits. Instead, we fill our products with as much naturally active ingredients as possible.

Menopausal skin is usually more prone to dryness and dehydration than it was in younger years. To hydrate menopausal skin, always use hydrating cleansers and nourishing treatments like ours, plus choose a daily moisturiser like one from our natural face cream collection that includes ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and natural oils like argan and baobab oil. These ingredients help keep the skin nourished and protected against moisture loss. In addition, they contain lots of vitamins and, minerals which are known to improve the appearance of ageing skin by helping prevent wrinkles and fine lines. It’s also important to apply sunscreen daily to protect your skin from sun damage. The other thing to remember is to drink enough water during the day to keep properly hydrated. By following these steps, you can ensure that your menopausal skin looks and feels its best.

Hydrating skin properly is not just about using a moisturiser. A nourishing cleanser and gentle exfoliation will help remove dead skin cells that can leave the complexion looking dull and dry. Always remember to include a good lip balm in your routine to keep this area soft and healthy. By following these simple steps, you can maintain healthy-looking menopausal skin.
