6-Step Programme for Achieving Smooth Skin on the Face

Good Cleansing for Smooth Skin

Having a good cleansing routine is essential for smooth skin on the face. This means cleansing in the morning and evening to remove sebum - which is oil, dirt and pollutants, as well as things that settle on your skin like cosmetics and sunscreens. Cleansing properly helps to keep skin clear and clean, so there will be less of those congested bumps. Leaving make-up or sunscreen on the face will have a negative effect. Dr Knight, a dermatologist from the FAAD Knight Dermal Institute explains that makeup traps environmental pollutants and free radicals that can damage skin cells, including collagen, leading to premature skin aging. So, not only does crashing out with your concealer on ultimately clog pores and lead to spots, it can also speed up the ageing process. So keep skin clear and avoid free radicals that overtime can degrade the deeper layers of your skin and cause an uneven texture, by cleansing properly. Carry this out with our natural anti-ageing face washnatural anti-ageing cleansing milk and natural anti-ageing face toner to ensure that skin gets the best cleansing, and without any harsh ingredients. Using a cleansing milk helps to release dirt that is lodged firmly into pores and will also condition skin at the same time. The face wash is excellent for helping to smooth skin as it contains natural fruit enzymes that help to smooth and clear those bumps and rough textures that can appear. Following with our face toner will ensure that the face and pores are as clean as possible and help to tone up tired skin.

Exfoliate Properly

Exfoliating helps to remove the top layer of dead skin cells, and the result is skin that is nice and clean with a smooth surface. However, choosing an exfoliator can be challenging, as many are too harsh for skin. This is why we recommend our natural anti-ageing exfoliator which offers a powerful way to help smooth skin out, from lumps and congestion, to lines and wrinkles.

There are many mechanical face exfoliators on the market such as scrubs but these can cause damage to skin, so we do not recommend them. There is also lots of synthetic chemical exfoliators such as glycolic acid products that dissolve dead skin, but we do not recommend these as they can cause irritation. In our opinion a natural liquid exfoliator like ours is the best way to take care of skin when it comes to deep cleansing exfoliation.

At Nakin the only other exfoliation that we recommend using is a mechanical method and exfoliating with our cleansing milk, plus removing with a luke-warm muslin cloth in small circular motions. This is a gentle natural exfoliation method that will not throw skin off balance. Whatever exfoliation method that you choose, never over exfoliate. The amount that you carry out this practice will depend on your skin type and condition, plus how natural and gentle the product you are using is.

Exfoliation sometimes gets a bad name as being irritating to skin. Skin does naturally shed dead skin cells, so some people feel exfoliating is not needed. However, if you are strategic about exfoliating and careful with the process, it will help to keep the skin on the face smooth. Just be mindful of the ingredients that you put onto your face and only use natural skincare products. Remember to also take it very gently on the neck, as there are not as many sebaceous glands here. Exfoliating helps to clear skin and pores, brighten and smooth the surface.

Moisturise Effectively

Good moisturisation of the face and neck is really beneficial for soft smooth plump skin. Even if you have oily skin there is no need to fear moisturisers as they are important for skin smoothness, texture and hydration. Face creams play a pivotal role in delivering humectants like hyaluronic acid, emollients and occlusive ingredients to seal goodness and moisture in. This is because delivering hydration to the top layer of the skin will plump and smooth out dry, uneven and wrinkle prone areas. Nakin’s moisturisers are fantastic options. Our Matt Formula Face Cream £22 for 50ml is for oily, normal, combination and sensitive skin, plus provides long lasting smooth hydration without greasiness. This is from the special blend of plant actives to hydrate, condition and protect skin from things like pollution. For dryer skin types then try our Active Dew Face Cream £22 for 50ml. This moisturiser is for dry, normal, combination and sensitive skin. It is a cult favourite with customers and is a real treat for the face and neck with sublime moisture, nutrients, and protection.

These high grade face creams help to bring hydration to that top layer of the skin. This will plump up the surface level skin cells and smooth out an uneven texture, preventing trans epidermal water loss. As they are natural, they help with the natural biological functioning of skin.  They are perfect for sealing in that trans epidermal water loss, so it really can help with skin hydration deep down and plump up those dry parched skin cells in the top layer of the skin. This helps to make an uneven texture less noticeable. Use a moisturiser both morning and evening for the best results.

For the ultimate in skin hydration and conditioning we also have our anti-ageing Performance Face Serum £28 for 50ml which is a hero in helping with lines, sun damage and an uneven skin tone. Then our anti-ageing Revitalising Face Oil £24 for 50ml to calm, condition and energise. For eyes our anti-ageing Eye Cream Complex £20 for 15ml provides silky soft hydration and combats dark circles, wrinkles and puffing. Nakin products are specially made to help achieve the best-looking skin naturally, and without clogging pores. With ongoing use, the best skincare products help to boost the collagen production in the deeper layers of skin. This improves skin firmness overall and helps to keep skin smooth. Nakin's anti-ageing skincare uses amazing plant actives for healthy, fresh smooth skin.

Wear Sunscreen

This advice for smooth skin is a well-known, but sometimes a forgotten one, as the damaging effects of the sun can take years to show on the face. Protecting the face and neck from the sun is especially important for good smooth skin, as some of the damage caused by the sun can give skin a kind of uneven leathery effect. The majority of ageing in the skin is thought to be the result of ultraviolet radiation damage. The effect of sun damage has negative effects on skin texture and skin smoothness, as it damages the deeper layers and collagen. This leads to sun damaged skin cells that build-up and behave abnormally, creating an uneven surface, textural abnormalities and sagging. So, protect skin with a natural broad-spectrum sunscreen. This is essential when outside, but also when inside if you are spending time near windows where the sun can still reach you.

Drink Enough Water

In the same way that applying a moisturiser topically helps to keep skin plump and smooth, hydrating skin from the inside with water will help to keep skin plump and smooth too. There is some controversy on this, but it seems common sense to us that we should drink a decent amount of water. The right amount of water helps our bodies to function as best possible. Water is essential to life and it is pure and natural, so much better for skin than fizzy drinks or coffee. Healthline report that although research is limited, it can help pores to stay clear, which may help ward off breakouts. Water can help promote proper natural detoxification, which could help prevent pores from becoming clogged. Take care though to only drink the right amount for your weight and for the environment and lifestyle that you live.

Get Good Sleep

The final step for smooth skin is to get a good night’s sleep, important for all health and vitality.  When we sleep our skin barrier function is optimised and our skin goes into repair mode. It even helps with photo ageing and so promotes a more even skin texture. Sleep issues are prevalent in today’s society, and this combined with a busy lifestyle mean that many of us get a lot less than the 8 hours recommended sleep. Tips for getting a good night’s sleep are to put away all devices a couple of hours before bedtime, and instead do something relaxing like having a bath or reading a book. Then at bedtime make sure it is dark and the environment is comfortable.

Incorporating high-quality skincare products into your routine, coupled with a healthy lifestyle, plays a vital role in achieving smooth, radiant skin. Premium skincare products like ours are rich in active ingredients can deeply nourish, protect, and rejuvenate your skin at a cellular level. Meanwhile, a healthy lifestyle, which includes a balanced diet, adequate hydration, regular exercise, and sufficient sleep, complements these skincare efforts by detoxifying the body and promoting the regeneration of skin cells. Together, these practices create a holistic approach to skincare, resulting in a noticeable improvement in skin texture and overall skin health.
