How To Apply Face Toner
With face toners having a bit of a bad name in over the years, many of us banished them from our routines and are not even sure how to use them. However, in recent times toners have made a big come back and are much more sophisticated, so it is time to look at them again as they add a special dimension to a skincare routine. Everyone has realised how great that they are for improving skin as a second step cleanse, to purify, hydrate and refresh. Every toner is different of course, so we are talking about good ones such as our Purifying Face Toner. Like every beauty product, using them the right way helps to get the best out of them and the most benefits for your face and neck.
At Nakin we are huge advocates of natural skincare and so we only recommend using a natural toner, as in our opinion these are the kindest way to tone your skin. Lots of toners around at the moment contain synthetic alpha hydroxy acids like Glycolic Acid which can be aggravating to skin. Using a natural toner gives your skin the best chance of being as healthy and comforted as possible and keeping your skin in balance.
At Nakin we believe that we have the best face toner to use for your face, as it is natural and made with gorgeous plant ingredients that cleanse and tone the face plus neck beautifully. It also primes skin ready for the next face products. There are lots of ways that you can apply toner as outlined below, so you can choose which ever one works for you.
Applying Toner with Cotton Wool
The watery consistency of a toner means that it can get deep down to really cleanse and revitalise cells. Applying toner with cotton wool is the traditional method and the way that many beauty therapists and salons will use. It is really cleansing to the face area. Simply apply some toner to a cotton wool pad and then swipe over the face in upward and outward sweeps. Do not forget about those hard-to-reach areas like near the ears and under the jawline, as dead skin cells tend to build up here.
Applying Toner with a Cloth
Toner can be applied with a soft face cloth, which is a lovely eco-friendly way to cleanse. Apply the toner to the cloth and then transfer to the face and neck in upward and outward motions. Some toners are already exfoliating, if not though applying a toner with a gauze material muslin cloth will also give an exfoliation boost to the face. Simply pour the toner onto the gauze and then move it across the face and neck gently in outward upward movements, but with enough pressure to exfoliate.
Applying Toner with Your Hands
Our hands are amazing beauty tools and the most environmentally friendly option. Apply the toner to your finger pads, keeping the fingers closed and taking care not to lose any drops. Then take your finger pads to each side of the face and neck, applying the toner in upward and outward sweeps.
If you are new to toners and interested in trying an amazing anti-ageing toner then our Nakin Purifying Face Toner is a great one, with its kind but effective formula. It is nothing like the toners of the past that were filled with alcohol, plus it never gives that parched feeling. Instead, it leaves skin dewy and uplifted. This is because of the cleansing hydrating ingredients including aloe, witch hazel and seaweed. The other big bug bear with some toners is when they contain synthetic fragrance, as this is one of the biggest causes of skin reactions and has all sorts of negative issues attached to it. At Nakin we never use synthetic fragrance for this reason and our toner has a completely natural subtle fresh scent. It is an all-round great toning product.
Applying face toner correctly can significantly enhance your skincare routine, ensuring you achieve the maximum benefits. There are lots of different ways that you can apply it, our favourite is to apply it with a cotton wool pad and sweep all over the face and neck, taking care not to miss any areas, such as near the ears, and near the forehead. To start, thoroughly cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser like ours to remove any dirt, oil, or makeup. After patting your skin dry with a clean towel, pour a small amount of toner onto a cotton pad, or your hands if preferred. Gently sweep the cotton pad across your face, focusing on areas that are prone to oiliness, such as the forehead, nose, and chin. If you prefer using your hands, lightly sweep the toner over the skin until all areas are covered. Allow the toner to dry naturally before proceeding with your regular skincare routine, including serums and moisturiser. Applying toner after cleansing helps to clear and balance your skin, plus make it ready it for the absorption of subsequent products, leaving your complexion refreshed and revitalised.
We hope that you found our feature helpful advising how to apply a face toner. Toners have many beauty superpowers, they are cleansing, toning and even help reduce lines and wrinkles. They finish off the cleansing process in the best way by detoxifying, closing pores and prepping skin for the next skincare stages. After you have applied your toner, we always recommend waiting a minute or so before using a natural serum, to let it work its magic.
