Ethical Anti-Ageing Face Care UK

Ethical Anti-Ageing Face Care UK

Ethical Anti-Ageing Face Care UK

We often find ourselves at a crossroads when choosing skincare. On one hand, we want powerful, high-performance products that deliver real results for ageing skin. On the other, we are increasingly conscious of the footprint we leave behind. At Nakin, we believe you shouldn’t have to compromise on either.

We are incredibly proud to produce award-winning UK made ethical anti-ageing face care that rivals premium salon brands, but we are just as proud of how we make them. We frequently receive questions about our ethical practices, from our ingredient sourcing to our packaging choices. Transparency is at the heart of what we do, so we wanted to write a feature highlighting exactly what goes into our range.

If you are looking for skincare that is kind to your complexion and considerate of the planet, read on to discover the ethical pillars behind Nakin.

The Power of Independent British Beauty

In an industry dominated by massive global conglomerates, being a small, independent UK brand is a badge of honour for us. It allows us to maintain strict control over our values and processes, ensuring that quality never takes a backseat to profit margins.

One of our key ethical commitments is that all our products are made right here in the UK. This is maintaining high quality controls and supporting local manufacturing.

Natural Ingredients for Sustainable Beauty

The term "natural" is often used loosely in the beauty industry, but for us, it is a formulation philosophy. Our products are as natural as possible, utilising the power of plant actives to rejuvenate and protect the skin.

Biodegradable and Earth-Friendly

Beyond just being natural, we focus on sustainability. We select ingredients that are biodegradable. This is a crucial, often overlooked aspect of ethical skincare. When you wash your face with our cleansers or shower off our treatments, the residues enter the water system. By using biodegradable ingredients, we ensure that our products do not accumulate in waterways or harm aquatic life. It is a full-circle approach to beauty: safe for you, safe for the drain, and safe for the environment.

Kindness to Sensitive Skin

Our commitment to natural ingredients goes hand-in-hand with our dedication to skin health. Synthetic chemicals and harsh preservatives can often trigger reactions, particularly in mature skin which can become thinner and more delicate over time.

Because our range is packed with skin-calming ingredients, it is designed to be kind to even the most sensitive skin types. We believe that anti-ageing results shouldn't come with the price of irritation. Whether you are using our face treatment serums or moisturising creams, you are feeding your skin with gentle, nurturing actives.

Cruelty-Free and Leaping Bunny Certified

Ethical beauty must be compassionate beauty. We are staunchly against animal testing in any form. However, we know that simply saying "we don't test on animals" isn't always enough for the discerning consumer who wants guarantees.

That is why Nakin is registered with the Leaping Bunny scheme. This is the gold standard for cruelty-free certification. It requires a supplier monitoring system to be implemented by the brand, supply chain checking for animal testing right down to the ingredient manufacturer level, and adherence to a fixed cut-off date policy. When you see the Leaping Bunny logo, you have the assurance that our products are genuinely cruelty-free.

Vegan Formulation Transparency

Alongside being cruelty-free, the vast majority of our range is suitable for vegans. We use high-performance plant extracts to achieve anti-ageing results, rather than animal-derived collagen or lanolin.

We believe in total transparency. Everything in the Nakin range is vegan, with one single exception: our Lip Treatment Balm. This product contains beeswax, chosen specifically for its unparalleled ability to protect and seal moisture into dry, chapped lips. For every other product in our collection—from cleansers to eye creams—you can be confident they are 100% plant-based.

Tackling the Packaging Problem

Plastic waste is one of the biggest challenges facing the beauty industry today. It is a complex issue, but we have taken significant steps to ensure our packaging is as eco-friendly as possible while still protecting the integrity of the natural ingredients inside.

Sugar Cane Bio-Plastic

We have moved away from traditional fossil-fuel-based plastics where possible. Our bottles are made from sugar cane. This is a bio-plastic created from a renewable source. During its growth, sugar cane captures CO2 from the atmosphere, making the production of this plastic far more carbon-efficient than standard polyethylene.

Clear and White for Easy Recycling

Recycling facilities use optical sorters to separate plastics, and dark-coloured or black plastics often go undetected, ending up in landfill. To combat this, we have made specific design choices:

  • Bottles and Jars: These are made from clear plastic. Clear plastic has the highest value in the recycling stream and is the easiest to recycle into new materials.
  • Caps: The caps on our moisturiser, cleanser, lip balm, and eye cream are white plastic. Like clear plastic, white plastic is easily identified and recycled by standard facilities.

By avoiding black or dark plastics entirely, we maximise the chances of our packaging being successfully given a second life.

The Honest Truth About Pumps

We want to be honest about the challenges, too. The pumps on our oil and serum products—like almost all cosmetic pumps on the market—are trickier to recycle. While the external housing is white plastic (and the tube is recyclable plastic), the internal mechanism contains a small metal spring and other non-plastic components necessary for the pump action to work.

Because of this mixed-material composition, they cannot simply be tossed in the home recycling bin in many areas. However, this depends on your local council. Some facilities are advanced enough to handle them, or are willing to take them apart, or you can use the new beauty recycling facilities that have popped up in local high street shops. We recommend checking your local recycling guidelines for cosmetic pumps. We are constantly monitoring packaging innovations and looking for fully recyclable pump solutions as technology advances.

Performance Without Compromise

Choosing ethical skincare doesn't mean you have to lower your expectations for results. Nakin is proof that you can have it all. Our range includes:

  • Excellent Anti-Ageing Cleansers: To purify without stripping natural oils.
  • Face Treatment Serums: Concentrated formulas to target lines and dullness.
  • Moisturising Creams: To hydrate, plump, and protect the skin barrier.

We have won awards because our products work. They smooth lines, hydrate deeply, and restore radiance, all while adhering to the strict ethical standards we have outlined above.
