Do Face Oils Cause Acne?

Do Face Oils Cause Acne?

There seems to be a misconception that face oils are only for those with very dry skin and applying them will cause our face to react with spots and acne. However, this is not usually the case. Especially when using a high quality natural face oil like our Revitalising Face Oil. This is because it contains high performing plant oils that offer so much to skin in terms of hydrating and rejuvenating, they are never too rich for the face and neck and so will not cause acne.

To answer the question of if face oils cause acne, we need to answer this with care as it will entirely depend on the contents of the face oil. It is unlikely that a face oil would cause acne, however, if one contained ingredients that are too rich then this could happen. But if using our Revitalising Face Oil which is one of our natural face treatments then it can actually help to balance skin and calm acne.

Acne is a common skin condition, affecting a huge number of people. Though many treatments are available to address acne, there has been some debate as to whether face oils can cause or worsen breakouts. The answer as we said is complicated, as it will depend on the type of oil used and how it is applied. However, using certain natural oils like the ones that we use such as jojoba oil and grapeseed oil can help reduce acne flare-ups due to their anti-bacterial properties. Our face oil helps to balance oiliness in the skin and strengthen the skin barrier to help to improve acne conditions. However, other oils like mineral oil or coconut oil may clog pores and exacerbate existing breakouts. There is no one size fits all answer to the question as added to the different face oil formulas, we also know that everyone’s skin will react differently to a product.

It is important to always remember that everyone's skin reacts differently; what works for one person might not work for the next. That being said, it is always recommended to avoid using heavy or greasy oils on acne-prone skin and opt for lighter formulas like ours instead. Additionally, if you are looking to incorporate face oils into your skincare regimen, be sure to use a gentle cleanser prior to application. Doing so will help ensure that your pores do not become clogged with excess oil.

Ultimately, there is no one size fits all answer when it comes to using face oils to treat acne. If you do decide to give them a try, be sure to start slow and pay attention for any signs of irritation or worsening breakouts. Face oils can be an absolutely fantastic product for all skin types, from oily skin to very dry. If you are unsure about using a face oil then you could opt for a good natural face serum like our Performance Face Serum instead, or miss out treatments and use our Matt Formula Face Cream. If you are prone to breakouts then good natural cleansing is really important and we recommend this in the morning and evening.
