It’s easy to think in this day and age, that wrinkles don’t actually exist. We are lucky to see a wrinkle on stars in TV shows, film and magazines. That’s because of the huge amount of invasive treatments available, that are common place in the celebrity world; and are now part of a regular beauty routine for many people.
Nakin do not promote the use of invasive treatments to target skin ageing concerns, instead we prefer natural methods, as discussed below. We understand that some customers may like to use them, and our advice is to always use a credible and recommended clinician. The main invasive treatments include Botox; where a toxin call Botulinum is injected into the targeted area, to relax the muscle just below the wrinkle, resulting in the skin on top becoming smooth and line free. Dermal fillers are also popular, where lines are filled with ingredients such as Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid. These bring plumpness back to the skin, which diminishes as we age. Other wrinkle and de-ageing facial treatments include chemical peels, laser resurfacing and Dermabrasion.
At Nakin we understand that you could be using the best skincare products available, such as those in our Nakin range. But they cannot give the same immediate effects as an invasive treatment. Nakin do not promote the use of invasive treatments, our products are natural and kind to skin, and may be used in conjunction with other therapies and treatments. There is such a wide variety of treatments on offer, so we always recommend seeking advice from the practitioner on using our products with cosmetic procedures.
Nakin still believe in beating wrinkles the natural way. It will require some effort, but its kind to your face, non-toxic and affordable. A certain amount of lines and creases are inevitable, and add character to the face, and are a reminder of all those fun times. But we can keep them to a minimum for soft smooth skin. Read our guide to the top ways to keep the face and eyes wrinkle free.
REDUCE SUN DAMAGE
Ultraviolet (UV) light is just a different version of the visible light that we can see, but it has the power to damage cells and tissues. UVB light is responsible for sunburn and skin cancer. UVA can reach further into the dermis than UVB light, where it damages Collagen and prevents Vitamin A production, resulting in thinner and crinklier skin.
A study published in the National Library of Medicine found that signs of ageing, of which wrinkles were a key sign, are effected by outside factors, in particular exposure to the sun, which they found to be responsible for 80% of the visible aging signs on the face. Although it’s good to get some sunlight on your skin, keep it minimal, stay out of hot sun and cover up with clothes and sunscreen. Wear sunglasses as much as possible to reduce lines and crow’s feet around the eyes.
Wrinkles are caused by a reduction of Collagen and Elastin in the dermis. Another enemy to Collagen is Cortisol, which is a hormone that we produce when we are stressed. Stress is something that most of us will suffer with, and it’s part of modern day life. One solution is to start meditating. This relaxing and calming activity will release endorphins and lower Cortisol levels. The more relaxed and happier we are, the less we will frown. Frown lines are the ones that appear between our eyebrows. They are formed by the repetitive action of frowning, due to the lack of elasticity in ageing skin. The solution is to stay happy and relaxed with lots of chill time, exercise and fun activities.
FACIAL EXERCISE & MASSAGE
We tone up specific parts of the body, and it can have dramatic changes to our shape, and this is the same for facial exercise. Moishe Feldenkrais is a physicist and author of the book Awareness Through Movement. He writes that as we age, we tend to move our bodies in the same type of ways. This limits the movements that we make, and our range of expression. Unfortunately, when our faces set into this habit, it can end up with lines and an unflattering expression. The way to overcome it is to stop the unconscious habit, and instead have a relaxed line free face.
Relieve tension in the face and relax it for a soft youthful appearance. Release facial tension by moving your face for a few minutes in all sorts of ways, include your mouth, tongue, chin, forehead, cheeks, eyes and neck. Do the same movements to each side of the face and neck. Repeat every day for a relaxed calmer look.
Massage is one of life’s luxuries, and it has many de-ageing benefits. They relax us, and this reduces Cortisol, as well as taking tension out of the face. Facial massage also stimulates the circulation of blood towards the skin, this prevent lines and helps to tighten skin. Use a product like our Anti-Ageing Face Oil when massaging the face. This will ensure there is no dragging of the skin, and allow the botanical plant oils to refresh and infuse skin with hydrating nutrients.
Products that are applied to skin topically can have dramatic effects on the look of our skin, and this is what Nakin is passionate about. Our skincare system will really help to diminish wrinkles, due to the potent actives included to correct skin, and the superb protection it offers in fighting future skin ageing. We do not use harsh or abrasive ingredients in our skincare, such as Retinol, Hydroquinone and Alpha Hydroxy Acids. They can have good anti-ageing benefits, and Retinol is one of the most common ingredients used in conventional anti-ageing products. This is due to its ability to fight wrinkles, lines, dullness and even firming skin. However, these ingredients are harsh to skin and can cause sensitivity, so we prefer natural ingredients. The science behind natural plant actives has advanced so much in recent decades, to become really affective as anti-ageing treatments. The Nakin anti-ageing range has been specially developed to help skin to be smooth and glowing, with actives that repair sun damage and protect and enhance skin. Our Performance Face Serum is one of the best serums for ageing skin. It’s packed with anti-ageing plant actives, and one of those is Hibiscus Extract, known to smooth and soften lines. Hibiscus is also found in our Eye Cream Complex, making it one of the best under eye wrinkle creams.
It’s a well-accepted fact that sleep helps to beautify us, hence the term beauty sleep. The science behind it is simple - we produce Collagen while we sleep as part of our natural biological restoration. But the time we spend asleep can be to the detriment of our faces, causing lines and lack of symmetry in the face. You may have noticed that you have more lines on the side of the face that you sleep on, than the side that you do not sleep on. These lines are called sleep lines, and they can be prevented by sleeping on your back. Some of us find it hard to sleep on our backs, so with sleep being so important to our overall health, and important in fighting wrinkles, you might want to invest in a silk or satin pillowcase, or a special beauty pillow. They have a silky surface, so as not to crease or indent the skin. Some are also infused with beauty boosting ingredients, such as Copper. When skin is in contact with the pillow, the copper ions are released into the moisture space between the fabric and the skin.
