Are Face Washes Drying to Skin?
The answer to this will entirely depend on the actual face wash and how dry your skin is to start with, but it is true that face washes are not as moisturising as oil-based cleansers. However, they are lovely for those that like to cleanse their face with a foam and achieve that really clean look and feel to skin. At Nakin we have a stunning face wash which is our Rejuvenating Face Wash and it is designed to be non-drying to skin. This is because it is filled with lots of hydrating and enhancing naturally active ingredients to help the face and neck to feel happy and comforted, while super clean at the same time.
Our face wash is a more recent addition to our natural anti-ageing skincare range as prior to that we had a cleansing milk and toner combination in our cleansing face products collection. This is because the cleanser and toner duo work beautifully to clean skin while hydrating and nourishing at the same time. It was only when we had so many requests from customers for a face wash that we developed our rejuvenating one. We also had lots of requests for an exfoliator and so we launched our Exfoliating Radiance Tonic at the same time. This is a beautiful plant powered liquid exfoliator that has incredible anti-ageing benefits. With the face wash we had to really sit down and think about how we can make the formula a highly effective foaming cleanser while hydrating at the same time. We achieved this by using gentle cleansing agents and also adding lots of plant hydrators and conditioners to the formula, to leave skin feeling happy, clear and comforted.
So, in the case of our face wash we can say that it is non-drying, however, sadly some face washes around are drying to skin and need to be used with care. This is because they are often made with harsh cleansing ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate, and then do not contain enough hydrating ingredients to nourish skin at the same time as it is being washed.
As we said when it comes to answering the question of whether face washes are drying to skin, there is no simple answer. The truth is that different types of face washes can have various effects on the complexion. Generally speaking, though, most high-quality natural cleansers do not leave skin feeling dry or tight after use. It is really only a problem if the ingredients in the product are too harsh and so cause a drying effect.
In addition to paying attention to the type of face wash you use; it is important to be gentle with your cleansing technique. Many people tend to rub their skin too harshly with cloths when washing their face, which can cause irritation and dryness in certain cases. To avoid this problem, gently massage the cleanser onto your skin in circular motions before rinsing with warm water.
The other thing to remember is that some people are more prone to experiencing dryness from facial cleansers than others. Those with sensitive or naturally dry skin types are more likely to feel dryness after using a face wash. Following cleansing with a gentle toner, serum/oil and moisturiser regularly like those in our anti-ageing product collection is really important to keep skin feeling hydrated and conditioned.
